Obituary

James Richard Farrell, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at his home in Palm City, Florida.

Jim was born in Englewood, New Jersey, to James and Kathleen (Dixon) Farrell on October 29, 1934.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Class of 1956, he joined the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant and flew the F-86, F-100, and B-47. He worked for IBM for 31 years, mostly in sales management, then manager of quality programs in the New York City area. He completed and passed the Certified Financial Planning Program after retirement from IBM.

Jim was involved with the Youth Consultation Service of New Jersey as a Board Member, Treasurer, and Chairman, and later as a Trustee.

After moving to Hilton Head Island, he was active with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra League as Treasurer.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Hackensack Golf Club in New Jersey, the Long Cove Club in South Carolina, and most recently, Pipers Landing Yacht and Country Club in Palm City. Jim was also an experienced sailor and Duplicate Bridge player.

Loving husband of Mary Susan (Baker) Farrell; loving father of James (Leslie) Farrell, Russell (Helaine) Farrell, and Kathleen Thygesen (Mikael); Loving grandfather of Justin, Chelsea, Sarah, Robert, Lindsay, Jack (Emily), and Scott; and Loving brother of Barbara Boucher.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Richard.
