James W. Shearer, 73, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away on October 14, 2019 at the Treasure Coast Hospice, Hay-Madeira House, Stuart, Florida.
Born in Xenia, Ohio he had been a resident of Jensen Beach for over 40 years coming from Xenia.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, becoming one of the youngest Captains at the age of 25. He was honorably discharged as a Captain and Chief Controller in 1972.
Mr. Shearer worked as a Physician's Assistant (P.A.) in Family Practice in Indiantown, FL for many years before becoming an HIV Specialist for the State of Florida, working in Area Health Departments. He eventually became a private contractor with HouseCalls Express and served as a P.A. for many facilities, including Treasure Coast Hospice, several area nursing homes and New Horizon's of the Treasure Coast.
James achieved a black belt in Okinawa Karate-Do Association in 1999, under the direction of his beloved teacher, Marguerite (Peggy) Hess.
Mr. Shearer also was granted the title of "Master Gardener" from the University of Florida Cooperative Extension and Martin County in 2005. He was responsible for the development of many butterfly gardens in the county and taught classes on the subject in the community.
He was a lover of sports cars and was a long-standing member of the Palm Beach Porsche Club.
Mr. Shearer was also a runner throughout his life and competed in a variety of races, placing in over 30 of those events.
For over 30 years, James was an avid Bonsai enthusiast and was chosen to display a tree at the last six Florida Bonsai State Conventions. This year he was selected to display a tree at the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.
Mr. Shearer helped many people in his lifetime and will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. This world has lost a truly good man who was passionate about everything he did and all of those he loved.
Survivors include his fiance, Tamara Hose of Jensen Beach; his daughter Mandy Shearer of Stuart; his son Mat Shearer and his wife Pam of Orlando and his grandsons, Tristan and Lukas.
