Janet M. Spangenberger, age 81, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 21, 2013. Janet was born April 14, 1932 in Mount Vernon, NY, daughter of the late Fred and Anna (Schmidt) Thome. Janet enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, golfing, bridge and playing mahjong. She loved to work with others, organizing, planning and running events at her home in Eaglewood of Hobe Sound. On June 6, 1945, in Yonkers, NY Janet was united in marriage to her loving husband, Eugene. They spent many happy years living and raising their children on the South Shore of Massachusetts. They moved to Florida 22 years ago, settling at Eaglewood in Hobe Sound. Janet is survived by her husband, Eugene Spangenberger of Hobe Sound, FL; children, Barbara & Richard McKinnon of Weymouth, MA, Eugene Paul Spangenberger of Sabattus, ME and Joseph & Patricia Spangenberger of Scituate, MA; grandchildren, Karen and Laura McKinnon, Danny, Andy, Brittany, Ryan and Alicia Spangenberger; and great grandchildren, Bliss and Kalysta. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered in the ocean of Hobe Sound and Scituate, MA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday (4/26), 10:00 a.m. at St. Christopher Catholic Church (12001 SE Federal Hwy; Hobe Sound, FL 33455). A separate Memorial Mass will be held in Massachusetts at a later date this Spring.
