Javan Syrinius Smith the third (3rd) of eight (8) children of Herbert Smith and Eugenia Moore was born on April 4, 1932 in the quiet rural area of Mount Recovery, Allman Hill, St. Catherine. He was educated at the Allman Elementary School up to the Sixth Grade. After completing Sixth Grade he did a correspondence course at Bennett College. His mother encouraged him to learn the shoe-making trade however that was not his desire for himself, he however learned the skill of driving and got his Driver's License in 1967. His sister Eslyn remarked that she remembered that his first license plate number was G 4092.
In his early years he was employed as Caretaker/ Cook at the home of Ellen Dawson. He was a very good cook and found it a pleasure to feed people.
Prior to migrating to the United States in October 1974, he worked as a Driver/Delivery man at and Caretaker at the Kingsway High School. It was said that he should have been a teacher as he assisted the principal in marking mathematics papers.
Javan's voice was a pleasure to hear, and he used his talent to honor God and sang with several singing groups. He sang at churches such as Kencot, Shortwood and rural churches. One of the many songs that was sung by the group was "The Wonder of it all", which was one of his favorites.
Upon migrating to the States, he worked as a porter at the Yonkers General Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 2007. He was a very diligent worker and was recognized for his timeliness and dedication to his job.
In December 2005, he married the love of his life Erica, the mother of his children and recommitted his life to the Lord in baptism that same year.
In 2014 they migrated to Port St. Lucie and lived with their youngest daughter Ingrid and one of their grand-daughters Ashley and worshipped at the Port St. Lucie SDA Church.
He passed away peacefully on March 9 th , 2022, at approximately 7:00pm.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eugenia Moore, and Herbert Smith; three siblings: Danny Smith, Doreen Palmer and Kinnsford Smith; and granddaughter Zoey Samuels.
He has left to mourn his wife: Erica Smith; four siblings: Harold Smith, Alvan Smith, Henry Smith, and Eslyn Smith; his children, grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
Let's remain faithful, so that we will be able to meet our brother again.
