Jerry Thomas Weakley, 70, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida (formerly of Mobile, Alabama) passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at his home. He spent his final hours in the company of his wife, two sons and two faithful dogs.
Mr. Weakley was born in Newark, Ohio, and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University. He was commissioned as a captain in the United States Army and was honorably discharged following service in Vietnam.
He retired in 2009 after a 20-year career as the legal administrator for Cunningham Bounds Law Firm in Mobile, Alabama, and prior to that, a 15-year management career with Industrial Nucleonics (AccuRay) in Columbus, Ohio.
Golf, fishing, hunting and boating were lifelong hobbies he pursued into his retirement years, most recently on the Florida Treasure Coast, where he had resided since 2012.
He was a member of North Stuart Baptist Church and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and a longtime supporter of Coastal Conservation Association, and Trout Unlimited.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Roy Weakley, and mother, Helen Weakley, both of Newark, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Margaret J. Weakley; sons, Jeff Weakley, and his wife, Tiffany, of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Todd Weakley, and his wife, Melissa, of Asheville, North Carolina; granddaughters, Mandy-Kate and Meredith; brother Dan Weakley, and his wife, Barb, of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Connie Gochoel; nephews, Jared Weakley and Brian Gochoel; nieces, Julie Krommenhoek, Stacy McCann, Kelly Baraf, Wendy Herron and Laury Marshall; and his two faithful canine companions, Fran, and Woody.
There will be a Memorial Service Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the North Stuart Baptist Church, 1950 NW Federal Highway, Stuart, Florida. (772-692-1616) The service will be followed by a light lunch. There will be a Military Graveside Service in Newark, Ohio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997, the Humane Society of Saint Lucie County, 100 Savannah Road, Fort Pierce, Florida 34982, or to a local church.
