Jill Abramson, 66, of Palm City, FL, passed away Wednesday, August 4th at her home after a nine month battle with cancer.
Jill was born and raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Chuck and Vera Swanstrom. She spent many enjoyable summers at their family cabin on Twin Lakes, Iowa, boating and waterskiing. She met her husband of 45 years, Michael Abramson, in Fort Dodge and they were married there, May 22, 1976.
In 1979, they packed up an RV and headed to South Florida, settling in Palm City. Jill began her career in early childhood education, mostly spent in the Kindergarten classroom. She taught at several schools in the area, touching many young lives. She strived to make her classroom an experience for her students, routinely transforming her classroom and hallway to fit the topic of study. She created jungles with large trees spanning the length of a hallway, farms with giant animals made with tissue paper and chicken wire, and several times made Green Eggs and Ham or picnic baskets to bring lessons to life. Early on in her career, she also taught art, and this passion for creativity continued throughout her life. She enjoyed creating, whether that be through handmade greeting cards, gift baskets for charitable events, or costumes for special events, she always enjoyed creating something beautiful.
In 1986, they adopted their daughter Grace and in 1989, they adopted their daughter Michelle. After raising their two daughters in Palm City, Mike retired in 2012. They were able to spend 4 wonderful summers traveling through the US and Canada in their motorhome, for four months each year. Jill looked forward to these trips throughout the year with time spent seeing old friends, going to different places, and experiencing all the beauty that this country has to offer. Most of all, she loved spending time with her husband, Mike.
Jill was predeceased by her parents, Chuck and Vera Swanstrom. She is survived by her husband, Michael Abramson and their two daughters, Grace Abramson of Tampa, FL and Michelle Boling of Clearwater, FL. Also survived by her brother and sister in law, Dick and Pat Swanstrom of Fort Dodge, IA and their children, Andrea Cook and Matt Swanstrom and their families as well as her sister and brother in law, Linda and Steve Soltysik of Lihue, HI and their daughters, Tawna Bensaid and Jade Aki and their families.
