Joan Alice Schmidt, age 80, of Stuart, Florida passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023. Joan is survived by her loving family, cherished friends, and her adorable cat Max. Joan was born in Garden City, NY but has been a resident of Stuart, FL for 40 years. Joan and her late husband Chris were a huge part of the Stuart community and were very active in preserving Stuart's historic district. They were also very passionate about collecting local artifacts and treasures, many of which Joan recently proudly donated to the Elliot Museum and Stuart Heritage Museum. Joan also loved cooking and entertaining family and friends and hosted many amazing happy hours, holiday parties, and evenings of shared laughter. Her loss has created an incredible void with her family, friends, and the Stuart community. Though Joan was a petite woman, she fought years of cancer diagnoses fiercely. Her spirit, love, and passion for life were felt by anyone she was ever in contact with. She will be truly missed.

Joan's close family and friends will be planning a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please help us honor Joan's life by donating to the Elliot Museum and Stuart Heritage Museum.
