John Burton Atkinson of Stuart, FL passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, FL. John was born April 10, 1941 in Ossining, NY, the son of John and Edith (French) Atkinson. He was a commander of the Disabled American Veterans as well as a long time member of the VFW, Elk's and American Legion. John is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Casolaro) Atkinson of Stuart, FL; children, Carollee Butcher of Garner, NC, John Atkinson, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, James Atkinson of Virginia Beach, VA, Kevin Atkinson of Virginia Beach, VA, Jennifer Atkinson of Virginia Beach, VA and Thomas Atkinson of Virginia Beach, VA; step-daughters, Debbie Barton of Brookfield, CT and Penny Sickenius of Croton, NY; mother and step-father, Edith and Harry Fritts of Garner, NC; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4th, 10 a.m. at Circle Bay in Stuart, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements are by the Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory.
