IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John David
Hascup
January 30, 1933 – November 21, 2022
John David Hascup died Monday, November 21 in Stuart, Florida. He was 89.
John was born January 30, 1933, in Saddle Brook, New Jersey to Jacob Hascup and Elizabeth McGowan Hascup.
John spent his formative years in Saddle Brook attending Franklin School and Lodi High School with his life-long friend Gene Schnebelen. After graduation, John enlisted in the Air Force. He served for four years as a radar technician with two tours in Japan during the Korean War. While attending Lodi High he met and fell in love with Marie Barbara Bohm. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he married Marie on May 19, 1956. After settling in Garfield, he started his career in New Jersey Bell Telephone and later AT&T. Shortly after the birth of their first son, they moved to Haskell. Their second and third sons were born during this time. While in New Jersey the family attended Wanaque Reformed Church and Hawthorne Gospel Church. John served many years as a deacon in Wanaque Reformed. He enjoyed fixing the early morning breakfasts for Easter morning sunrise services for the church. John and Marie served as directors for the church's youth music choir.
In 1973, they moved to Stuart, where they spent the next 49 years. There John served as a deacon at First Baptist Stuart and taught Sunday School classes. Later they attended First Baptist of Jensen and Nettles Island. He always enjoyed the times he could go on visitations and later working with The Gideons.
In 1988, he retired from AT&T. For a couple years John and Marie managed the Coral Reef Motel, where John could be found working the yard and rooms. Many a guest commented on how well John and Marie welcomed them and made it such a great experience. Many of the guests returning year after year. The Owner of the motel rewarded John and Marie with trip through Europe and many more memories.
His retirement years were spent enjoying time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking walks, as a Martin County Sheriff crossing guard, and attending church. He enjoyed working his yard, especially on his riding mower.
Early this year, he and Marie celebrated their 66 th anniversary. Marie was always the love and focus of his life the past 75 years since their days at Lodi High.
He is survived by his wife; brother Jack Hascup of West Milford, NJ, sons, John David and Susan of Bonney Lake, WA, William and Christine of Pace, FL, and David and Donna of Jensen Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nephews, nieces; especially niece Jerri Hascup, who they "adopted" like a daughter. He is also survived by his life-long friends Gene and Jean Schnebelen of Deland, FL.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Donald; and sister Margaret Jeniec.
John was a "Hero" who for decades donated gallons of blood and therefore the family desires that memorial contributions be made by giving blood and donating to local blood banks.
