John Robert McCluney III, 70, of Stuart, Florida, died on September 8, 2014. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to begin a career in sales upon graduation from Jacksonville University. After 27 years with Kraft Foods he retired from sales and enjoyed advising college students at Kaplan University. He and his wife relocated to Stuart last year.
John was a kind, loving, and gentle family man who enjoyed reading, music and poetry and who also took delight in helping others feel good about themselves. He was also an active member of Toastmasters in Stuart.
John is survived by a wife who loved him dearly for forty years of marriage, Julie McCluney, and by five children: Rosi Shepard and husband Scott, of Stuart, Cara Garcia and husband, Chad, of Palm City, Colleen Ragan, of Stuart, John Vincent McCluney of Hutchinson Island, Florida, and Christin McCluney of Lantana, Florida, as well as siblings: David McCluney of Baxley,Georgia, and Tim McCluney and Patricia Dewicki, both of Detroit, Michigan, Walter Parkin, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Victoria Hall, of Hundred, West Virginia, and Jimmy McCluney, of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Vincent Garcia, Gabrielle Ragan and Jeremiah, Levi, and Sawyer Shepard.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy McCluney.
A Funeral Service and Burial will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, FL, on Wednesday, September 10, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Florida Oceanographic Society, 890 NE Ocean Boulevard, Stuart, Florida 34996.
