John Arthur (June) Morris, 95 formerly of Bigler, PA passed away October 10, 2018 at Martin South Hospital following a brief illness.

Born February 21, 1923 in Bigler, PA, he was the son of John Perry Morris and Sarah Ellen (Green) Morris. John  lived in Bigler until 2000 when he and his wife moved to Stuart, FL.

He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in Co 5, 157th Infantry, 45th Thunderbird Division. He saw service in  Sicily, Naples and Rome Italy, Southern France,  and Central Europe . The 45th took part in the Anzio Beach Landing in Italy and the liberation of Dachu Prison in Germany. John was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action July 9, 1944 in Italy. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead.

John was Superintendent of the Bradford coal refinery in Bigler for many years. He retired after 41 years with the company

John was an avid outdoorsman enjoying all aspects of hunting and fishing. His love of the outdoors was  surpassed only by his passion for horses. His family was active in breeding and showing Morgan horses and  owned Moravian Run Farm. In later years they  became involved in Standardbred racing. John drove and won his first race at the age of 67.

While living in Florida John enjoyed Kayaking and fishing with his son-in-law.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Clair and Cecil. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years Margaret (Hynd) Morris and his devoted daughter Jeanne and son-in-law Gregory DuChene, also nephews Daniel (Joyce) Morris, Jack (Gloria) Morris and nieces Suzette (Dale) Heichel and Amy (Ron) Good.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Levin of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center for his many years of caring and compassionate care.

There will be a memorial service in June 2019 in the Bigler area with date, time and location to be determined.
