John William Sabo, 92, of Stuart, Florida, affectionately known by family and friends as "The Commish", passed away on February 10, 2022 at his home. Born in Wallingford, CT, he had been a resident of Stuart for nearly 20 years after relocating from Wallingford following his retirement.
Prior to retiring, John was a car salesman for over 40 years with three different dealerships, primarily selling Buicks for both Wallingford Auto Co. and then Jack Miller Buick in Hamden, CT. He also served the State of Connecticut as a Deputy Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the early 1990's.
John served in the US Army for 4 years during a period that included a portion of the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. He was also a longtime member of the Governor's Foot Guard and the Governor's Military Staff in Connecticut, achieving the honorable rank of Brigadier General at the time of his retirement from the latter.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan; sons Chuck (and wife Karen) of Augusta, GA, Patrick (and wife Sally) of Mt. Sinai, NY, and Fran (and wife Sheila) of Prescott, Arizona; daughters Cheryl and Eileen, both of Ellicott City, MD; and daughter-in-law Cindy of Lebanon, CT. He was also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, John Jr. ("Jay") and 7 siblings.
