John F, Stanek , 80, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Stuart, Florida
Born July 30, 1935 in Rutland, Vermont, he had been a resident of Jensen Beach/Hutchinson Island for approximately 21 years, coming from New Jersey.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother-in-law.
Son of Julia Whitton and Joseph Stanek, he resided in Poultney, Vermont through high school. John was a star athlete. After graduation from Poultney High School, he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. A patriot to say the least.
He worked and lived in New Jersey for most of his adult life. Before relocating to Florida he retired from TransAmerica Delaval in Florence, New Jersey where he was a QA/QC inspector for nuclear and non-nuclear power plants and submarines. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Columbus New Jersey for many years.
In Florida he was employed by several engineering companies. He worked for Figg Engineering as a senior inspector for the construction of the new Roosevelt Bridge and Evans Crary Bridge in Stuart. He also worked as senior inspector for Tampa Bay Engineering Company during the construction and completion of the entrance and exit ramps to the Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach.
He was an active member on the board of directors at The Island Dunes Oceanside Building II for many years. It was his priority and goal, along with the help of other board members and maintenance workers, to make sure the building stayed in top shape.
John was always there to help and try to solve a problem.
John loved the game of Baseball and was an avid New York Yankees Fan and he also loved a cold Heineken and a good cigar!
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary; daughter Elyse Fuchs and son-in-law Gary Fuchs; grandchildren Emily and Ben; sister-in-law Peggy Hartmann; and many loved nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son John Scott Stanek, mother-in -law Margaret Hartmann, father-in-law Philip Hartmann, sister-in-law Phyllis Murphy.
A service to celebrate his life will be decided at a later date.
