Jonella "Jonie" Soares, formerly of Somerset, Massachusetts and most recently of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away on May 6, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born on December 14, 1942, in Taunton, Massachusetts to John and Rella Shaw, Jonella lived a life marked by warmth, resilience, and dedication.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Gerald "Gerry" Soares; sister Jacqueline "Jackie" Shaw; and brother Richard "Dick" Shaw. Jonella is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Gerald "Jay" Soares and Michael Soares; grandson Gerald Soares; and sister Sr. Elaine Shaw.

Known for her infectious sense of humor and generous spirit, Jonella formed deep friendships throughout her life. Her caring nature made her a trusted confidant who many turned to for guidance, drawn by her wisdom and unwavering support. To friends, Jonella was the rock that held groups together and a source of strength whose kindness left a lasting imprint. At the age of fifty, Jonella returned to college to earn a nursing degree, an inspiring testament to her determination and lifelong commitment to helping others. Her passion for learning and service shone through in every chapter of her life.

A private service will be held at a later date for family members to celebrate Jonella's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jonella's

Jonella's legacy lives on in the joyful memories she created and the lives she touched with compassion and grace.
