Joseph Anthony Baione Jr., 95, died peacefully at home in Delray Beach Florida on June 8th, 2024 in the company of his beloved wife of 72 years, Eileen, following a short illness.
Joe, as he was known, was born and raised in Brooklyn and took an early interest in electronics, starting a residential antenna and electronics repair service as a teenager. While completing an Associates Degree in electronics at St. John's University in Queens, he began working for New York Telephone in New York City as a linesman. When drafted in 1949 into the Army during the Korean conflict, he was selected for a stateside assignment working for New York Telephone's parent company AT&T outside Washington, D.C.
After his honorable discharge and while serving in the reserves, he married in 1952 and continued his career with New York Telephone. He rose to District Plant Superintendent where he was responsible for telephone service throughout Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island. He retired on his 55th birthday in 1984 after 35 years of service, and subsequently enjoyed 40 years of retirement living on Long Island, NY and on Hutchinson Island in Jenson Beach, Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their four children and their spouses, Albert (Gloria Maimon) of Delray Beach, FL, Joseph (Pam Kuhns) of Lancaster, PA, Annie (Scott Minniear) of Tampa, FL, and Thomas (Thomas Vecchione) of New York, NY, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
