Joseph Francis Smith, 93, of Palm City, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Smith was born in Newark, NJ. He had been a resident of Palm City, FL for thirteen years, coming from Marathon, FL.
He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the US Army; Service Troops 102nd Cavalry. He was a member of VFW Post #4745 in NJ, and a member of the Harbor Commission in Aberdeen, NJ. He was the Director of Guadalcanal Drum and Bugle Corps, in Cliffwood, NJ. He was a member of the American Legion in Marathon, FL, he was the past Commodore of the Marathon Yacht Club, and a member of the Stuart Sunshine Chapter of Deborah, and he also served on the Whispering Sound Grounds Committee.
Prior to retirement he was a steam fitter for the Local 475 in Newark, NJ.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Dorothy Ritchings-Smith of Palm City, FL; son Harold Smith of Matawan, NJ; daughters, Dorothy Smith of Palm City, FL and Frances Masiello of Freehold, NJ; six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services: The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
