Joseph Kisslinger, son of the late Ludwig and Anna Kisslinger born in NYC on September 23, 1933, passed away peacefully at his home in Hobe Sound, Florida on August 8, 2015, at the age of 81.
Joseph spent most of his childhood in the Bronx, NY and moved to Peekskill, NY during his high school years where he excelled at multiple sports, especially football, where he earned All County honors as a tight end his senior year. After graduating high school in 1951 he spent 3 years at Gettysburg College and then enlisted in the Army and spent 2 years in the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army he went on to graduate from Indiana University. Upon graduation he worked for Macy's in NYC as an assistant buyer for sporting goods and then decided to become a teacher. He received a Masters degree from CUNY New Paltz and a PD from Hunter College. He spent the next 5 years teaching in Mahopac NY where he met his future bride Nancy Kisslinger, and at Frank G. Lindsey in Montrose NY before ending up at George Washington Elementary School in Mohegan Lake, NY where he would spend the next 21 years, 4 as Assistant Principal and 17 as Principal. He retired in 1991. He and his wife Nancy Kisslinger moved from their home in Mahopac, NY and ended up settling in Hobe Sound, Florida in 2002.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Nancy Kisslinger to whom he was married and devoted to for 51 years; children and spouses, Kathryn Millington & Dave Millington of Manhasset NY, Paul Kisslinger & Jennifer Kisslinger of Amawalk NY, and Stephen Kisslinger of Hobe Sound FL; five grandchildren, who he adored (Andre, Thomas, Ryan (deceased) Grace, Macey); brother John Kisslinger and sister Barbara Dupilka.
A memorial service will be held in Florida on Monday, August 24 at 12:00 noon at St. Christopher's Church in Hobe Sound followed by a celebration of his life at Duffy's in South Stuart.
A memorial service will be held in New York on Thursday, August 27 at 12:00 noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak followed by a burial service at Assumption Cemetery on Oregon Road, Peekskill NY.
