Our handsome and beloved father, Juan Rafael Diaz (Papi) was born on March 7, 1927 in Morovis, Puerto Rico, to parents Teresa and Juan Diaz. He went with the lord on April 13, 2015. Papi married Libertad Diaz (RIP) on June 3, 1948 and together they had four children; Gladys, Fanny (RIP), Manuel (RIP) and Ruth.
Papi was an elegant man who dressed impeccably. He was also an excellent dancer. He retired from the restaurant business as a banquet manager after working for many years at the Helmsley Palace Hotel in NYC, where he worked closely with the owner Leona Helmsley aka " the Queen of Mean."
Papi lived his life to the fullest. He retired in a lovely home in Puerto Rico but after 5 years he decided he missed NYC and moved back after purchasing a condo on the 33rd floor. Consequently, the winter weather made him long for P.R. and once again he moved back to the island. Due to medical reasons
Rafael (papi) and Libertad ( mami) moved to Florida to be cared for by their Daughter, Ruth Diaz and her husband Carlos Torres. They lived with them for five years until they passed away.
Papi is survived by his daughters Gladys (Rick) and Ruth (Carlos) as well as a son, Rafael (Kim). He is also survived by his many grandchildren Joi, Tamya, Angelo, Michael, Xiomara, Priscilla, Jalon, Jordan, Leilani Joi (RIP) and Jessica. He is survived by great grandchildren Andrew, Natalee, Leilani Rose, Alex, Gabriela, Adriana and Patrick. He is also survived by his brother Angel Guillermo Diaz and his sister Emma Lydia Ruiz, plus many nieces and nephews.
Our father will be greatly missed but never, ever forgotten.
