Obituary

Judith J. Weber, a deeply loved mother, grandmother and wife and a lifelong advocate for children, died April 5, 2023. She was 78.
Judy was raised by her mother, Fannie Jackson, who for many years was a senior class English teacher at Martin County High School. Her great
grandparents, Benjamin and Sallie Parks, settled on the St. Lucie River in what became Stuart in 1891.

At Martin County High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, participated in debate, and was a cheerleader. She was awarded a Nina Haven Scholarship and was graduated from Florida State University in three and a half years with a social work degree.
Her first job after graduation was in children's protective services. After three years she was awarded a full scholarship to Barry University where
she received her master's degree specializing in psychotherapy. She returned to work and was promoted, becoming the youngest supervisor in her field in Florida. She worked in a district that included Martin, Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. Later in her career she joined Indian River Community Mental Health Center where she directly provided therapy for children and families. She was promoted to take charge of the consultation and education division and in time was made associate director of the Center.

After retirement she served as president of the Hibiscus Children's Center and later as chair of the regional board of the Children's Home Society. In this capacity and with the help of others she created the Designer Showcase, a home show that became an annual fundraiser to help pay for
services for Treasure Coast children who find themselves homeless when at 18 they age out of the state's foster care program. She was a governor's appointee to the board of the Children's Services Council of Martin County (CSC) for four years and was elected chair. In 1988 Judy supported the original creation of the CSC. In 2014 she became co-chair for a political action committee dedicated to winning voter
approval to renew CSC authority. The campaign was successful. In 2008 Judy was honored with the Ann Bowden Child Advocate of the
Year Award for Florida. She joined the board of Nina Haven Scholarships in 1980 and was made president in 1996 and as a volunteer took on the management of the organization which grants scholarships to graduates of high schools in Martin County. She did that work for 26 years. At any one time the organization has more than 100 recipients attending universities all over the country.

Judy loved her friends. She loved to cook. She studied birds. She liked to fish. She had a busy, productive life, but above all else, she loved her children and grandchildren. She created a warm, accepting household where laughter ruled and inviting kitchen smells made memories for a lifetime.

She is survived by her husband Thomas E. Weber Jr. (in July they would have been married 57 years); her daughter Jill Parks (Matt) Massey, Chevy Chase, Md.; her son Thomas Avant (Chaanda) Weber, Hollywood, FL; and grandchildren Jackson Thomas Weber, Madeline Parks Massey and William Weber Massey. Flowers are welcome. She loved them too.

For those who wish, memorial donations in her name may be made to Nina Haven Scholarships P.O. Box 1978, Stuart, FL 34995
