Lawrence "Larry" E. Wells of Stuart, FL passed away on April 22, 2014 after a three year battle with lung cancer. Despite many health challenges over the years, he was an upbeat and courageous fighter.
He is survived by Vivian Wells, his wife; two daughters, Kristen Wells Bauer ("Chip"); Julie Wells Wintercorn (Phil); grandchildren Allison, Reed and Grace Bauer; Jack and Will Wintercorn; stepson Brad (Tricia) Wells; step-grandsons Ryan and Tanner Wells. Survivors also include his brother Robert (Dianne) Wells; nephews Mark (Jean) Wells and Bryn (Suzanne) Wells; half-brother Bruce (Gladys) Wells; and predeceased by another half-brother, John (Jeanne) Wells.
Larry was born on July 27, 1944 in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Stranahan High School in Ft. Lauderdale and matriculated to Broward Community College. After graduating from Florida State University in 1967, he subsequently earned a master's degree from Florida Atlantic University.
From 1968-1979 he was a teacher and tennis coach in the Broward County, FL school system.
In 1980 upon moving to Stuart, he opened and operated a successful fan and lighting store, The Fan Connection.
Larry was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church and Willoughby Golf Club. As an avid tennis player he had the reputation of having the "meanest drop shot in Stuart". Other fond hobbies included deep sea fishing and diving for lobster in the Florida Keys.
Larry was loved by family and a large circle of friends who will miss him daily.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home, 950 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, FL. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:00 am with a service at 11:00 am; a reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart, FL or the American Cancer Society.
