IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard Jay
Wein
October 27, 1945 – April 15, 2024
Leonard (Lenny) Wein died on Monday, April 15th, after a long illness. Born October 27, 1945, Lenny maintained a highly active and productive lifestyle for over forty years after being diagnosed muscular dystrophy while living in New York. With his wife of fifty-five years, Joyce, Lenny relocated to Palm City, FL in 1992.
Lenny is also survived by his daughter, Melanie Hodge, son-in-law Rob Hodge, and Lenny's grandsons, Spencer Hodge and Ryan Hodge. In addition, his sisters Jackie and Irene survive him.
Lenny was always a community-oriented person and he strove to have an impact. He volunteered with the Martin County Sheriff's Department and served on several County citizens' committees. For more than 30 years, he was involved with the Stuart West Homeowners' Association as a board member, officer, and/or president. Lenny was quite particular in his approach, always striving for the best outcome for the community. He was adamant about his positions on community matters and known for not backing down from his given position.
Prior to moving to Florida, Lenny was a volunteer EMT with Queens General Hospital, as well as volunteering with the NYPD. In Florida, he was a very vocal and successful advocate of handicap rights. Due to his defense of the handicap, disabled citizens throughout the Treasure Coast have far greater access to both public and private facilities.
To meet Lenny Wein was to not forget him. Like the Titanic that sunk on April 15th prior to Lenny's birth, he was a memorable and controversial force of nature. It's fitting that Lenny Wein shared the same birthday as President Teddy Roosevelt, another strong-minded and successful advocate for his beliefs.
A memorial for Lenny Wein will be held at 11am at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home at 950 SE Monterey Road in Stuart, FL. Refreshments will follow the service.
Please feel free to share a remembrance or message of condolence with the family through this online guestbook.
