Our beautiful and beloved mother, Libertad Diaz (aka Mami), was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, to parents Nicomedes Rodriguez and Francisca Lopez on July 23, 1926. She went to heaven on July 31, 2014.
She married Juan Rafael Diaz (aka Papi), on June 3, 1948 and together they had four children: Gladys, Fanny (RIP), Manuel (RIP), and Ruth.
Mom had nine grandchildren: Joi, Tamya, Angelo, Michael, Xiomara, Priscilla, Jalon, Leilani (RIP), and Jordan.
Mom had seven great grandchildren: Andrew, Natalee, Leilani, Alex, Gabriela, Adriana, and Patrick.
Mom's beloved pet chihuahas, Lady and Brownie, are also with her in heaven.
Our mother's essence had a deep impact on her family. She was loving, caring, and generous, but above all she was altruistic. Besides raising her four children, Mami also raised three grandchildren; Angelo, Michael and Xiomara.
Mami was very talented. She crocheted many beautiful hats, scarves, ponchos, and doilies. When babies were born she would crochet their outfits, booties, and receiving blankets. Mami was also a fantastic dancer. When the dance "The Twist" by Chubby Checker first came out, she bought a pale pink dress with lots of frills on it. When she did The Twist she was on fire!!!! She was also great at Salsa dancing and when she and Papi went to clubs, others would surround them and clap as they danced. And of course, we can't forget about her cooking. Like a good Puerto Rican, Mami was famous for her delicious rice and beans, pasteles, and alcapurrias.
Mami was adored by all. She is now with our Lord resting in peace.
