Obituary

Logan Hollis "Bud" Wharton, 88, of Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 29, 2021.

Logan was born on February 15, 1933 in Bunceton, Missouri, son of the late Reverend Hollis Wharton and Mary Maud (Coffman).  He graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois in 1955 where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, with a B.A. in Political Science.  At Knox he met his beloved wife Dorothy Thomas Wharton.   Logan and Dorothy were married December 10, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. After serving in the ROTC at Knox College, he served two years in the Army.

Logan played football and ran track in high school and college and had an avid lifelong interest in sports.  He especially loved cheering on the University of Alabama, where his daughter and son-in-law graduated from law school.

Logan worked at Container Corporation of America for 22 years, and then as a sales manager for Potlatch Corporation for 10 years. After retirement, Logan and Dorothy moved from Elgin, Illinois to Yacht and Country Club of Stuart where Logan played golf for over twenty years and served on the Board of Directors.  He enjoyed traveling both in the United States and Europe with Dorothy by his side.  One of Logan's favorite trips was a family trip to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas celebrating his and Dorothy's 50th anniversary.

Logan's family was very dear to him and he reveled in their love and successes.  He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and is remembered in the community for volunteering at his granddaughters' school, Jensen Beach Elementary, assisting with physical education classes.  Logan will be remembered for his quick wit and jovial spirit, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Logan was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Thomas Wharton; his parents; his two sisters, Barbara Schrader and Beverly Ross; and his son-in-law Walter G. Woods II.  Logan is survived by his daughter, Sarah Wharton Woods of Sewall's Point, Florida; his son, Thomas Wharton (Kathy) of Gulf Breeze, Florida; three granddaughters, Katherine Harris (Daniel) of Jupiter, Florida, Allison Morgan (Zachary) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Elizabeth Woods (Drew Thies) of Washington, DC; two step-granddaughters, Stevi Loucks (Luke) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Carli Parham (Tyler) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and six great-grandchildren.
