Loretta Elizabeth Schantz (Smalley) age of 91 years, of Palm City, Florida was called home on January 19, 2019. She was raised in New Jersey, then relocated to Florida in the 80s. She was a caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She graduated from Montclair State University with a B.A. in English and History. She received her Master's degree Summa Cum Laude from Monmouth University, New Jersey. She taught in and retired from New Jersey schools.
She is survived by her husband, John, two daughters Lauren Wilson of Port St Lucie, FL, and Cynthia Minter of Virginia, one son, John Scott Schantz of Forked River, New Jersey, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
In keeping with Loretta's request, there will be no public services. Her life and memory will be honored in a private gathering of family at a later date.
Loretta is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Loretta was a teacher of remedial reading, and especially loved her high school students.
Loretta championed womens' rights, loved all things "French", was crazy about Buddhas', and her detailed knowledge of Civil War events amazed all that were lucky enough to feel her passion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, Mayes Center, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida, 34997.
