Obituary

Louis Frank Lentine Sr., lovingly known as "Captain Lou," age 82, of Stuart, Florida, passed away on October 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, humor, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Born on July 31, 1942, in Trenton, NJ, Lou was the son of the late Frank and Lillie (Billera) Lentine.

Lou was raised in Flemington, New Jersey, alongside his three brothers, Sal, Frank, and Vincent. From a young age, he worked in the family business, Flemington Block & Supply, where he learned the value of hard work early, a lesson that shaped the rest of his life.

After graduating from Hunterdon Central High School in 1960, Lou served in the U.S. Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base and continued his service in the Air Force Reserve. In 1970, he founded Hunterdon Concrete with his cousin Sal and later owned several successful businesses, including the Station Break Restaurant in Clinton, NJ, and Lentine Marine and Taco Shack in Stuart, FL.

In 1966, Lou married Ruth Gum, and together they raised three children: Melinda, Louis Jr., and Gregory. Later, he married Julie LaFrance, with whom he had his youngest son, Nicholas. Through this union, he also gained a wonderful mother-in-law and lifelong friend, Sally LaFrance Long. Family was everything to Lou, and he included his children in his many adventures, teaching them the value of both work and fun.

Lou's public service career was equally notable. In 1973, he became the youngest mayor in Raritan Township's history, known for his bold and direct leadership. His legacy includes roles in the Flemington Greater Area Jaycees, the Raritan Township Committee, and the Italian American Club of Hunterdon County. In 1982, he played a key role in President Ronald Reagan attending the San Gennaro Festival at the Flemington Fairgrounds.

Lou's adventurous spirit was infectious. Whether fishing, coaching Little League, or seeking thrills on boats and snowmobiles, his stories were legendary. He never slowed down, even in his 70s and 80s, working and enjoying life with the same energy that defined him. Rest in peace, Captain Lou. You have set sail on your final voyage, but your memory will forever remain anchored in our hearts.

Lou is survived by his children: Melinda Lentine Fehre and son-in-law Paul, Louis Lentine Jr. and daughter-in-law Kelli, Gregory Lentine, and Nicholas Lentine, as well as six grandchildren: Logan, Molly, Loucas, Kaleigh, Lane, and Courtney Lentine. He also dearly loved his many relatives and life long friends.
