IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Peggy"
Kent
February 8, 1921 – January 1, 2024
Margaret "Peggy" Kent (née Crowley) passed peacefully on January 1, 2024 in Stuart, Florida at the age of 102. Peggy had a deep love for her large extended family and was married to her beloved husband, Frank R. Kent Sr., for nearly 70 years. Together they raised seven children and endlessly spoiled twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, their partners, and their pets.
Peggy was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on February 8, 1921 and grew up in Scituate, the oldest of six siblings. She graduated from Scituate High School in 1938, greatly enjoying her time on the field hockey, basketball, and tennis teams. She met her future husband Frank at a New Year's Eve party at the age of 18 and the pair married during Frank's service as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Peggy had a zest for life and was always quick to laugh. She traveled widely with Frank and their many friends, often sharing fond memories of their trips. She loved to read, garden, play cards, and watch her Boston Red Sox. Peggy never said no to dessert.
She was an accomplished artist, working primarily in watercolors, and exhibited throughout New England and in Florida and California. Her award-winning paintings incorporate beautiful compositions of florals and seascape motifs. Later in life, she continued to explore different mediums with artwork such as encaustic and collage. Peggy attended the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Art and was a member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, New Haven Paint & Clay Club, Guilford Art League, Clinton Art Society, and Madison Art Society.
She was a longtime resident of Madison and Clinton, Connecticut and worked at C.R. Gibson. Combining her work and her art, many of her designs were used by C.R. Gibson for cards and decorative paper.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband Frank, her children Tom, Tissa (David), and Danny, and her brothers Pat, Larry, and Billy. She is survived by her children Larry (Margaret), Rusty (Deb), Trudy, and David (Sabine), her daughter-in-law Marcia, and her sisters Jane and Patricia. She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren Mindy (Harvey), Alison (Chris), Susan (Zack), Heidi, David (Jen), Dan (Amy), Jonathan, Sara, Laura, Chet (Alex), Hugh, and Dana(Jordan) and her great-grandchildren Maggie, Bi, Olivia, Tommy, Artemis, Appolonia, and Emma.
A Celebration of Life for Peggy and Frank will be held on Saturday, June 22 from 1-3pm at American Legion Post 66, 82 West Main Street, Clinton, CT 06413.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center.
