IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie B.
Hascup
October 4, 1933 – October 24, 2024
Marie Hascup died Thursday, October 24 in Stuart, Florida. She had recently celebrated her 91st birthday.
Marie was born in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, to Joseph Bohm and Elizabeth Kazinci.
Marie spent her formative years in Saddle Brook attending Lodi High School where she developed her love of music, art and fashion. After graduation she worked in banking and later as a fashion designer in New York City. It was during her high school years that she met the love of her life, John David Hascup. They married on May 19, 1956. Their life of love continued until John's death in 2022. They were true partners and gave their three sons an example of loving loyalty to each other through all of life's ups and downs. Shortly after the birth of their first son, they moved to Haskell, NJ. Their second and third sons were born during this time. While in New Jersey the family attended Wanaque Reformed Church and Hawthorne Gospel Church. Marie was choir director and sang in the Gospel-Aires providing music for Family Life Radio. Music was one of the means that Marie used to share her undying love of Jesus.
In 1973, the family moved to Stuart where they would spend the remaining years of their life. At First Baptist Stuart, Marie provided solos during services and was a member of the sanctuary choir and the Joint Heirs singing group. Later they attended First Baptist of Jensen and Nettles Island Church. During her years in Stuart she started a dress design business, creating bridal gowns, prom dresses and stylized outfits. She also volunteered teaching crafts at area retirement centers. Her love of art and fashion was another means that Marie used to share the creativity of her creator.
In 1988, after John retired, Marie and John managed the Coral Reef Motel in Jensen. Marie provided the bookkeeping of the motel, leveraging her earlier experience in banking. Many a guest commented on how well John and Marie welcomed them and made it such a great experience. Many of the guests returned year after year knowing John and Marie would be there with smiling welcoming faces. The owner of the motel rewarded John and Marie with a trip through Europe and many more memories.
In 2022, prior to John's death, they celebrated their 66th anniversary. For the 75 years since their high school days, John and Marie have always been together. And now, with Marie's passing they are again together resting in the warm embrace of each other and their savior awaiting the resurrection when we can all welcome the new creation and the end of pain and death.
She is survived by Jack and Marleen Hascup of New Jersey, and Kathy Bohm of California, sons, JohnDavid and Susan of Bonney Lake, WA, William and Christine of Pace, FL, and David and Donna of Jensen Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Bohm in 2002.
Marie was a person who loved to hug, and so the family desires that memorial moments be created by parents giving a hug to their children, children giving a hug to their parents. We the family look forward to the day when we will be re-united with "Funny Gram" as her great children call her. Marie was always ready to sing, get down on the floor to craft some new creation, or just be a kid again with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Finally, the family would like to say a big thank you to Alice's Restaurant in Stuart. We witnessed many a time the staff there were so nice to our parents. Thank you for the kindness you showed Marie as she waited for her pancakes and strawberries and drew pictures on the napkins. Also, thank you to Alto Senior Living in Stuart for the care they provided, especially the memory care staff that provided so much love to our mom. The family appreciated the care you provided.
Please feel free to share a remembrance or message of condolence with the family through this online guestbook.
