IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Lawson
Miller
October 26, 1933 – February 20, 2021
Marilyn Lawson Miller passed peacefully at home in the comforting presence of her loving children Saturday February 20, 2021 on a beautiful Florida day overlooking the Port St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. She is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Leonard Theodore Miller, who passed on January 28, 2017; her mother, Bertha Gertrude Lawson, her father, John Frances Lawson, her sisters; Kay Sullivan, Elizabeth Lawson, Joan Kelly, and Dorothy Daly, and many other friends. She was the youngest of six children, all girls, known as the Lawson sisters. The Lawson sisters grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and were known as competitive swimmers who gained recognition in Brooklyn and beyond. Marilyn is survived by her three children: Leonard T. Miller Jr and his wife Dana and three grandchildren, Alex, Jess and Cole; John F. Miller and his wife Judy and her loving daughter, Marilyn Lawson Miller. She is also survived by her loving sister Edna Thornton and her many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends and her ever attentive 4-legged companion Buddy.
Mom lived a meaningful, happy, and full life with unconditional love for her family and friends. Her marriage of 62 unforgettable years to her devoted husband Leonard was filled with endless appreciation, understanding and love for one another. It was true love at first sight when they met by chance at a school mixer as teenagers that blossomed into an unbreakable lifelong bond. An incredible mother and exceptional human being, she always had the time to help people navigate life. A woman well ahead of the times with a passion for real estate projects, including her beloved Bed & Breakfast, the Victoria Guest House in Long Beach Island, NJ. Born to be an educator across all walks of life, which included students in the classroom, bridge, Mom was a Life Master, and anyone who was looking to learn something from her wise and pragmatic ways. Ever positive, ever present and ever supportive - an anchor to all that had the honor and privilege to know her.
There are so many wonderful memories from our family gatherings in the Hamptons, New York City, Ridgewood, and Long Beach Island. Incredible family trips ranging from Disney World, a US Virgin Islands sailing adventure, an African Safari in Tanzania and Costa Rica Eco Tour to name a few. We'll never forget when our family moved to Singapore for 4 years in the late '70s when dad was assigned overseas with Otis Elevator. It was an experience that forever changed and broadened our lives for the better. The most recent moves following retirement were to Ocean Village, Fort Pierce and Harborage Yacht Club in Stuart.
A memorial service for both Marilyn and Leonard will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stuart. Interment will follow at the Fernhill Memorial Military Gardens where there will be a Navy Honor Service. In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that you continue Mom and Dad's legacy by helping make this world a better place and "Pay it forward."
Thank you, Mom and Dad, for your unwavering support, guidance, and love. We are eternally grateful and blessed to have had you both as our parents and role models. Rest in peace and know that your amazing example will never be forgotten.
All our love always,
Your loving children - Lee, John, and Lynn
