Marilyn C. Newton (November 14, 1954 – January 5, 2019)
Marilyn C. Newton, 64, loving daughter, mother and grandmother, passed suddenly but peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 5 th , 2019. Marilyn was originally from Ypsilanti, MI and lived her whole life in Michigan, most recently Adrian, MI, until 2017, when she moved to Stuart, FL to be closer to her only child, Kristyn Kocher, and son-in-law, Scott Kocher who had their first child, Brayden Tyler Kocher on March 25, 2018. Marilyn was the full time caretaker for her grandson, Brayden, during the day and loved being so close to Brayden and watching him grow. She enjoyed taking him to story time at the libraries, taking him to lunch and was even teaching him sign language.
Marilyn worked in several different fields during her life and lived by the "Love what you do" motto. She retired as the Director of the Visitor's Bureau for Lenawee County, Michigan, where she was a key player in promoting tourism and development for Lenawee County. Prior to this she worked for the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, in Michigan, in multiple roles for 14 years. During her tenure with the Sherriff's Office she worked as a Police Cadet, Communications Operator, Corrections Officer and key administrative support for LAWNET. She began her professional life as a one of the first female lineman for Michigan Bell and has always been up for any challenge life brought, but always loved what she did professionally and had fun doing it.
Marilyn was a faithful woman of God and loved visiting different churches and singing praise to the Lord. She loved the beach and was looking forward to taking Brayden on his first outing so they could put their toes in the sand together. She also served her community and was passionate about the Salvation Army, serving on the Board in both Ypsilanti, MI and Adrian, MI for many years. Marilyn loved cats, supporting several rescue organizations and any pets that were in need. She was a gracious and giving person, always thinking of others before herself. She will be missed by so many but her spirit will live on and will continue to inspire those that knew her well.
Marilyn was survived by her only child, daughter Kristyn Lynne Kocher (Scott), her grandson, Brayden Tyler Kocher, her mother Margaret Scheafnocker Newton, her sister, Nanette Carnes (Kennoth), brother William Newton, and brother, James Newton as well as extended family members and friends around the country. She was preceded in death by her father, William Newton and is now reunited with him in Heaven.
A celebration of life will take place at Kristyn & Scott Kocher's home in Stuart, FL, on Saturday, February 9 th , 2019 from 1-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, please support your local animal rescue organizations or donate to your local Salvation Army Branch in Marilyn's name.
