Stuart, Florida
Mary Helen Bell Cairns (b. 1953) left this life on August 10, 2018, in the company of a loving family, her husband ever at her side.
Mary was the third of four children born to Harry S. Bell, Jr. and Caroline Anne Rucker Bell, of Elberton, Georgia. Her father's
career with the Army Corps of Engineers took the family to many new homes across the southeast before he was offered a position
with NASA and the family put down roots in Titusville, Florida.
A student of music and the arts, Mary graduated from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, with a degree in Humanities. It was at
Stetson that she met the love of her life, Richard Sill Cairns. They married after graduation and set off on a life of adventure.
Richard's career with Allstate took them around the world, and Mary was able to explore fully the art and culture of each new destination. Their love of boating and blue water made the coast of Florida home.
Here, Mary made many wonderful friends, through her southern gifts of caring, correspondence, and gracious entertaining. She enjoyed mentoring students in reading and working in her beautiful yard.
Mary was the glue that kept extended family together, and she will be loved, missed, and remembered forever.
Mary is survived by her husband, her brother and two sisters, her husband's two sisters and brother, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces
and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers in remembrance, contributions may be made in Mary's memory to American Cancer Society.
