Obituary

Melvyn L. Bass, aged 96, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Stuart, Florida, after a brief illness. Born on May 21, 1928, in Jamaica, New York.

He was predeceased by his parents, David and Augusta (Finegold) Bass, and his beloved wife, Constance L. (Geoly) Bass, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.

A proud graduate of Jamaica High School, Melvyn went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He dedicated his professional life to Universal Combustion Corp., a combustion equipment company in Brooklyn, NY, founded by his
grandfather, Michael Bass. As President, Melvyn channeled his ambitious spirit into building a successful business, earning a reputation for his technical acumen, intelligence, and practical knowledge, often complemented by an insatiable curiosity and a remarkable sense of humor.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Melvyn enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life, marked by a lifelong passion for sailing, fishing, and reading, as well as staying informed on current events. He served as an instructor for the US Navy in Electronics and was an active member of the United
States Power Squadrons, achieving the prestigious "Navigator" Certification. An avid investor, he possessed an uncanny ability to research and select sound financial opportunities. Devotion to family was the cornerstone of Melvyn's life. He is survived by his children, William Bass and James Bass (Sherie), and his cherished grandchildren, Winston Bass and David Bass. Melvyn's unselfish, generous, and humble nature was evident in the love he facilitated for his family, friends, and favorite charities. He was respected for his significant contributions to the community, living a life inspired by wisdom and maturity in both personal and business relationships. Those who knew Melvyn valued his clarity of thought and integrity, admiring his authenticity and genuineness. His gentle and persevering soul was filled with goodness, decency, and kindness, marked by a considerate, and thoughtful regard for others. Melvyn's distinguished life was defined by rectitude, honesty, morality, and sincerity. His selfless and unwavering devotion to family stands as a noble testament to his abundant lifespan. In respecting his wishes, no services are planned. Rest in peace.
