Obituary

Michael Lee Hobbs, 71, of Hobe Sound, Florida, suddenly went to be with Jesus on October 15, 2020. Michael loved God with all of his heart and soul and lived for the day he would finally see Him face-to-face. His greatest joy was in pointing others to Jesus. He often said, "I just want to help people get addicted to Jesus!"

Michael was preceded in his home-going by his parents, Rev. Walter and Ada Hobbs, of Fairborn, Ohio, and his first wife, JoAnn (Adams) Hobbs. Raised in a pastor's home, he made his own choice to follow Jesus at 4 years of age, loving and serving Him faithfully throughout his life. Love and pastoral care flowed freely from him as his life was wrapped up in ministry to others: pastoring churches in Dayton, Ohio, St. Louis, Michigan, Madison, West Virginia, Noblesville, Indiana, Helfenstein, Pennsylvania, and interim pastor in Massilon, Ohio. He was a frequent speaker in camps and revivals and a beloved worship leader and chorister.

After his marriage to Daryl (Bradbury) Hobbs in 2009, he became a part of Hope International Missions. He and his wife then began pastoring a mission church in the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as ministering in Haiti. After leaving TCI, they continued working in Haiti as the Field Administrators for HIM, overseeing an orphanage, school and several churches, as well as teaching seminars for pastors and church leaders. Michael and his wife were scheduled to fly into Haiti for a pastors' seminar and visit with the orphans this week, not knowing that the Lord had other plans for him. For the past three years, Michael also worked with FEA Ministries in Hobe Sound as the Assistant Housing Director.

Michael loved serving others in any way that he could. Throughout most of his life he was involved in food pantries or other forms of food distribution. He found joy in serving -said that was his gift from the Lord. He also found great joy in encouraging others, frequently sending text messages of encouragement to those who were going through difficult times. He often stopped to pray with someone in need. His life fulfilled the greatest commandments: to love the Lord with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love his neighbor as himself. As David in the Old Testament, he was a "man after God's own heart." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Michael loved his family deeply and prayed for them daily. He is survived by his wife, Daryl; his sons Daniel (Carol) Hobbs, Nathaniel (Carleen) Hobbs; his daughter Esther (William) Straight; his step-daughter Rose (Thym) Grandin; his grandchildren Emelyne Hobbs, Sophia Hobbs, Elsa Hobbs, Tobin Hobbs, Tristen Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Shaina Hobbs, Katherine Hobbs, Wesley Hobbs, Caleb Hobbs, Alicia Grandin, Charles Straight, Brennan Straight, Owen Straight, Colin Straight.

A viewing will be held at Hobe Sound Bible Church on Friday evening, October 23, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Hobe Sound Bible Church on October 24 at 11:00 a.m. The service will be live streamed on the website: HobeSoundBibleChurch.com for those who are unable to attend the service in person.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor his memory may be sent to Hope International Missions, PO Box 1065, Hobe Sound, FL, 33475, for the Haiti Good Samaritan Fund, a fund which is used to meet needs of food, clothing, housing and education for those in desperate need.
