Mildred Depew of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
She was born on May 16, 1918 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Joseph and Anna Hubeny. She graduated from Rahway High School in 1936 and from the New Jersey College for Women (Douglass College) in 1940. Mildred worked for CBS radio in New York City as a key employee on the "Betty Crocker" radio show until the end of World War II when she married Colonel (ret.) James Gibson Depew.
The Depews settled in Cranford, New Jersey, where they raised their two daughters, Judith Ellen and Jacquelyn Ann. While enjoying her family, Millie was also very busy supporting her husband in his responsibilities with the New Jersey National Guard and their air conditioning business, Meyer and Depew, Inc.
In 1966, The Depew family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Millie worked as a real estate agent, stock broker and language lab aide. She enjoyed exploring the western part of the United States with her husband until his death in 1975. She then kept very busy with volunteer work and began traveling the world.
To stay close to her family, Millie moved to Mission Viejo, California in 1985, to Reno, Nevada in 2000, and nally to Palm City, Florida in 2003. In each of the cities Millie lived, she was always a member of the local First Presbyterian Church and several service clubs and travel groups.
Millie will always be remembered for her love of reading and discussing politics and current events, as well as her extensive world-wide travels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel (ret.) James G. Depew and her brother, Frank Hubeny.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Tony) DeSantis, of Palm City, Florida, and Jackie (Larry) deAngelis, of Bradenton, Florida; and her grandchildren, Nikki DeSantis, of Orlando, Florida, David (Lisa) DeSantis, of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Jenny (Steve) deAngelis Weiss, of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
A private funeral service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
