Obituary

Patrick J. Malone ("Pat"), of Palm City, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2022.

Born on June 18, 1943 to James Patrick Malone and Thelma Ashton Malone, Pat grew up on Desson Avenue in the Albia neighborhood of Troy, New York and was a proud newspaper delivery boy for many years.

Pat attended Sacred Heart Parish School and Catholic Central High School (CCHS), graduating in the class of 1961 as an honors student.

After earning a Bachelor's degree at Siena College in Loudonville, NY, Pat worked for Benziger Brothers book company marketing school text books and bibles in New York City.

Pat married a fellow CCHS '61 classmate Leona Kupic of South Troy in 1968.

Pat earned a law degree at Albany Law School in 1972 and served as an Assistant District Attorney for Albany County for 2 years, the NY State Dormitory Authority, and Stockton Barker & Mead LLP prior to moving to Jupiter, FL in 1978 and practiced law in various locations in West Palm Beach and Jupiter until opening his own law practice.  Pat remained an active member of the NY and FL Bar until his death.

Pat was a quiet man who enjoyed his legal work, basketball and tennis in his younger years, his beloved Yorkshire terriers, fine red wines, genealogy, and spending time with his extended family, participating in the Martin County Democrat Club, Martin County Bar Association, Palm Beach County Bar Association, and he recently became an active member of the Treasure Coast Unitarian Universalist Church.

Suffering from Type 1 Diabetes since early adulthood, Pat became very active with the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA and was a strong advocate for research into Type 1 diabetes outreach, philanthropy, and ran the 1994 New York City Marathon with support of Team Joslin.  He participated in their Medalist Study where he proudly received his 50 year medal in 2012.  He was a registered organ donor with their 50 Year Medalist Study to help find a cure to eradicate this disease.

Predeceased by his parents, sister Anne Malone Tremont, niece Kathleen Tremont, former wife Leona Kupic Malone, and partner Elaine Adkins; Pat is survived by daughter Carrah Malone and her fiancée Garrett J. Byerly, Sr. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, sister Jean Malone Letzelter of Bonita Springs, FL, brother Terry Malone (Chris) of Kirkland, WA, niece Kimberly Tremont Berger (Brian) of Castleton, NY, nephew Ken Tremont Jr. (Kathi) of West Sand Lake, NY, niece Jennifer Malone-Zagorin (Randy) of Summit, NJ, nephew Jason Malone (Stuart) of Seattle, WA, niece Doris Letzelter Ricker (Mike) Bonita Springs, FL, nephew Richard Cohn of Bonita Springs, FL, several cousins, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life memorial service to be held on July 29 th at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home from 2pm-5pm with a formalized service beginning at 3:30pm, 950 S.E. Monterey Road, Stuart, FL 34994.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Pat's memory to Joslin Diabetes Center www.joslin.org.
