IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul F.
Larabee
March 2, 1940 – March 17, 2025
Paul F. Larrabee, age 85, died suddenly on March 17, 2025 in Jensen Beach, Florida. He had recently undergone a series of hospitalizations during which time he lost his wife Barbara.
Paul was a strong willed and independent individual who always lived his life on his own terms.
Paul grew up in Milton, Massachusetts, born March 2,1940 to Irish American parents. Proud of his heritage he sported the tattoo IRISH LARR on his bicep. During high school he worked as a soda jerk. Paul graduated from Milton High in 1957.
A lifetime boat owner Paul had a keen interest in fishing and lobstering and generally loved to be out on the water. He was also a dedicated fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and the Masters Tournament fervently watching his favorite players every September through April.
He served in the U.S. Army and upon discharge traveled the West Coast from California to Alaska. In Alaska he worked for a short while in a fish processing factory. He jokingly referred to that job as Cannery Row recalling the John Steinbeck novel. It was in Alaska that Paul began his career as a U.S. Postal Carrier, a position he held for thirty years. Paul eventually made his way back to California seeking sun and warmth and enthusiastically took up the sport of surfing. Days in the sun were spent delivering mail and ending in the ocean catching a wave. After fifteen years Paul returned to Massachusetts and continued to deliver mail in Weymouth.
An avid golfer, Paul met Barbara Fredrickson at the South Shore Country Club in Hingham, MA. They had a long courtship and were married in 1993 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The marriage provided him with an instant family of five grown stepchildren. The couple resided in Weymouth, MA. and retired to Chatham, MA. Tired of the cold winters the two became snowbirds, summers were spent in Chatham where they each had a second career as Commercial Clammers and winters were spent in Jensen Beach, FL. Together they shared their mutual love of outdoor activities, gardening, long walks, boating and the ocean.
Paul was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Elks in Weymouth, MA. and a member of the VFW in Chatham, MA.
Paul is predeceased by his wife of thirty two years Barbara Larrabee, parents Joseph G. Larrabee Sr. and Elizabeth (Lynch), his siblings Elizabeth Brow and her husband Warren, Joseph G Larrabee Jr. and his wife Joan, and Virginia Willis. Also predeceased by his nephew Michael Brow.
Paul is survived by his stepchildren Sandra (Spaulding) Parker, Ronald Spaulding, Alan Fredrickson, Marjorie Roche and Heidi Newhall as well as their spouses, their nine children and their six grandchildren. Paul also leaves behind his nephew Jim Brow, his nieces Marie Desmond, Joanna Cotter and Julie Powers.
A Celebration of Life event will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers consider a donation made in Paul's name to samaritanshope.org or floridaocean.org.
