Obituary

Paul Norman Spinney, 94, of La Buona Vita, in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away May 27, 2014, at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Stuart, Florida.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and Boston Red Sox fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph "Tink" and Bertha Spinney.

Paul was a 1938 graduate of Lynn English High School in Lynn, Massachusetts. After graduation he began working as a tool and dye maker at the General Electric plant in West Lynn, Massachusetts. His employment was interrupted by his service to his beloved Country in the United States Navy, where he served as an Aviation Machinists Mate Second Class. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946, Paul returned to General Electric and was asked to participate in the General Electric Apprentice Program where he attended classes at MIT and Northeastern University. He graduated from the 4 year program in 1947. Paul retired from the General Electric in 1982 after 43 years of service.

Paul was a member of the General Electric Apprentice Alumni and the Spark Plugs, the Christian Men's Fellowship, and the Mantel Club. He served on the boards of the Goldfish Pond Association and the La Buona Vita Retirement Community.

Paul was a friend to all who knew him. Always pleasant and good natured, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was interested in all facets of life and enjoyed sharing stories and life experiences with family, colleagues, and his many friends.

He was surrounded by his family's love each day of his life.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Helen "Curly"; his children, Paula Tortolini and her ex-husband, Peter Tortolini of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Norman and Susan Spinney of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and Jane and Bill Phillips of Virginia Beach. He was admired and respected by his grandchildren, Brandon Tortolini and Valerie, Conrad Phillips, Logan Phillips McLeod and her husband, Justin, Jake and Grace Spinney, and great-grandchildren, Angelo Tortolini, and Braxton and Lyla McLeod.

In lieu of flowers, Contributions as a Memorial may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida, 34997.
