BAYER, Philip J.

Philip John Bayer, age 96 of Stuart, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Treasure Coast Hay-Madeira Hospice House in Stuart. Philip was born December 4, 1916 in Erie, PA, the son of the late William and Alice (Curry) Bayer. After graduating from the University Of Notre Dame with his Bachelor's Degree in 1938, he served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. He was stationed at Camp Murphy in Hobe Sound (now Jonathan Dickinson State Park), being released from the Army in 1946. His hobbies included recreational flying and college football, especially his Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On July 30, 1949 Philip was united in marriage to his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth (Kiester) Bayer. After Phil retired from 29 years with Quaker State Oil Refining Corp in WV, the couple enjoyed traveling in their motor coach and eventually retired full time to Stuart, FL in 1986. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughter, Angela Bayer of Hobe Sound; several nieces and nephews. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will take place at a later date. In lieu of memorial contributions, Mr. Bayer would want you to spend special time with your family. Arrangements are by the Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Stuart, FL.
