R. Jeff Hulley, MS, DFAAPA, PA-C, 65, of Jensen Beach, Florida, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Barb; their two children, Jon and Becky; his siblings Greg, Barbara, Nancy and Glen and their families; and a wide circle of close friends.
Born November 12, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Roland and Joy Hulley, Jeff went on to become a groundbreaking physician assistant with more than 40 years of experience in emergency and primary care medicine.
He was a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a Past President of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants, and a member of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine (AAHCM). In addition, he served as the chair of the Florida Board of Medicine's Council on Physician Assistants.
As President and Managing Partner of House Calls Express in Stuart, Florida, Jeff was recognized as a pioneer in the field of home care medicine.
Prior to that, while working in the ER, he realized many geriatric patients came in because they lacked ready access to medical care. As he watched minor illnesses become life-threatening, he made the decision to take the medical care directly to the home-bound seniors to help them avoid unnecessary ER visits and hospitalizations.
Together with a colleague he founded House Calls Express 17 years ago. Today the practice serves residents in four counties.
Jeff was also a tireless volunteer devoted to supporting and promoting the profession of physician assistants nationally and statewide. The American Academy of Home Care Medicine named him their 2014 House Call Clinician of the Year. And the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants awarded him the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.
In his free time, Jeff could often be found at car auctions or at NASCAR events. A passionate car enthusiast, he loved fast cars, vintage cars, even occasionally racing cars himself after earning his competitive driving license.
He will be sorely missed by family members, friends, colleagues, and the sales teams at Corvette and BMW dealerships everywhere.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice at treasurehealth.org.
A gathering of family and friends for a Celebration of Life will be held from 5-7 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 2015 N.W. Fork Rd., Stuart, in North River Shores.
