Obituary

Raquel (Rachel) Amalbert, 84 years old, October passed away on October 1, 2025 in the comfort of home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Born Adjuntas, PR, her family relocated to Manhattan, NY for 10 years then moved to Jersey City, NJ for 40 years. She had been a resident of Port St. Lucie for 7 ½ years, prior to relocating from Clifton, NJ.

She graduated from the Julia Richmond High School in 1959, then attended and graduated from the Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. Later in life, she also attended Jersey City State University.

Over the years, Raquel was a Foster Mom to numerous children in Hudson County. She also enjoyed gardening, caving, flea marketing, and antique collecting. Raquel also was the fix-it-up-queen, having amassed quite the collection of tools that would have impressed even the staunchest of professionals.

Prior to retiring in 2008, she was the Fiscal Manager for the Jersey City HeadStart program from its beginnings in 1963 until 2003, Fiscal Manager for PACO (Puertorriqueños Asociados for Community Organization, Inc. from 1970 until the early 2000's and human resource manager for Liberty Academy Charter School from 2003 until her retirement.

Survivors include her daughter, Raquel (Pebbles) Farrell, son-in-law Steven Farrell, sister Doris Caban, brother-in-law Hiram Caban, grandchildren Joseph Farrell, John Farrell, Sazon (her Granddog) and many other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by family members Carlos Hernandez, Jessie, Nick, Salima and Alexander Babadjanov, Henry Eteinne and Mary Dubrowski.

She was preceded by her parents Francisca and Tomas Maldonado, brother Oswaldo (Ozzy) Maldonado and Granddog Riley.
