Richard Thorne Brown, 78, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart, FL. Mr. Brown was a life long resident of Grand Rapids, MI and a part time resident of Palm City, FL for fourteen years.

He received his BBA and MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, he was also an active member of the Grand Rapids Chapter, University of Michigan Alumni Assocation. He was member of Stuart Congregational Church and East Congregational Church in Grand Rapids, MI, and an active member of East Grand Rapids Team Boosters.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Margaret Brown of Grand Rapids, MI; daughters, Laura Dougherty of Athens, PA; Elizabeth Lyman of Grand Rapids, MI; son, Richard Thorne Brown, II of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Mary Carolyn Matteson; brothers, Robert F. Brown, and T. James Brown all of Grand Rapids, MI; and nine grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Spencer.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 29, 2012 at East Congregational United Church of Christ, 1005 Giddings Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506
