December 30, 1947 – February 9, 2023
Richard Joseph Dungey, 75, of Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023 at Treasure Coast Hospice after years of living with Parkinson's Disease.
Dick was born in Red Bud, IL to Terrell E. and Nova K. Dungey. He moved to Pompano Beach, FL as a child. At age 15, he met his future wife Mary Margaret Wilson. They both graduated from the University of Florida where Dick also earned his Law Degree. He practiced Law for his entire career of 41 years in Stuart.
He and Mary raised five daughters. Together with his family Dick enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling to all 48 continental US states, attending Florida Gator sports, and hosting tailgates. He shared his love of sports with his children and joyfully attended all of their many athletic events. Dick had a large social network and was renowned for hosting annual 4th of July parties.
He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart where he volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. He also served in leadership roles to support St. Joseph Catholic School and John Carroll Catholic High School.
Dick was predeceased by his newborn son Richard J. Dungey Jr., his parents, his brother, Thomas W. Dungey, and his sister, Barbara Dungey Dale. Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary W. Dungey, and his daughters Mary Rose (Richard) Bressman, Elizabeth (Gerald) Alcalde, Susan (Jamie) Tedder, Robin (Tre) Moynihan, and Martha (TJ) Freitas. He also leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren Sloan, Jonathan, and Paige Bressman, Vivian, Grant Richard, and Clayton Alcalde, Dalton and Ivey Tedder, Philip and Benjamin Moynihan, and Adam Freitas. Additionally, he leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
