Richard Allen "Richie" Hammond, 72, of Port St. Lucie, Florida went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2016 at Harper House Hospice in Stuart, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Virginia Hammond of Arlington, Virginia.

Richie is survived by his wife Ammie Hammond, a son "Rick" Hammond of Bentonville, AR, a daughter, Michelle Nichols of Metarie, LA, Brandon "Brandy" McCurley-Weston of Jackson, MS, Sandra "Sandy" McCurley-Kukor of Raymond, MS, and Amanda Thrash of Lena, MS, a brother Art Hammond of Palm City, FL, a sister Doris Pond of Stanley, VA.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Helen and Virginia Hammond, Emma Nichols , John David, Tyler, and Victoria Thrash, Wesley and Anna Weston, Matt McCurley-Rice, Audri, and Lauren Varner, and great-granddaughter, Molli Ann Thrash.

Richie also leaves behind a host of special friends whom he dearly loved.

Richie was in the army from 1965-1968. He was stationed in Phu Lam Vietnam, where he was in communications.

At the time of Richie's retirement from U.S. Customs in 1999, he had more than 31 years of commitment to the U.S. Government. Richie worked at the airport, customs house, and the Port of New Orleans, as an Inspector or Senior Inspector. From 1994 until his retirement in 1999, he was Port Director of Gramercy, LA.

After retiring Richie moved to Jackson, Mississippi. While there, he started two business.

In 2007, Richie, Ammie, and Casper, moved to Florida. After moving to Florida, Richie worked for Wackenhut and Liberty Medical Supplies as a Security Officer.

Richie loved spending time with his beloved wife, Ammie and his dog, Casper. Richie enjoyed his boat "Hakuna Matata". He loved cruising his boat on the St. Lucie River and the Indian River, where he was the captain and Casper was the first-mate. He enjoyed fishing and golf.

Richie enjoyed working in his yard. He went to great lengths to make sure that his yard was the best looking yard on the block.

He loved to travel in the United States and to take cruises to the Eastern Caribbean.

Richie enjoyed going to church at the First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie, where he was a member.
Richie loved music. He was a very gifted vocalist and recorded a professional CD, which he shared with his family and friends.

Richie had a smile and laughter that could light up a room; he never met a stranger. Richie was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church of Port Saint Lucie, 2240 SE Walton Road, Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34952.
