IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard James
Weitkamp
December 20, 1922 – February 12, 2022
Richard (Dick) Weitkamp was born on December 20, 1922, to Mary Alice Outcault Weitkamp and George Edward Weitkamp in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had one older sister, Ruth Weitkamp Glenn, and was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Weitkamp. He is survived by three children, James Weitkamp, Sandra Connors, and Nancy Weitkamp; six grandchildren; Ashley Bentayou, Jill Rich, Jodi Peruch, Clarissa Kirk, Eric Weitkamp, and Jaime Vanacore. Fourteen great-grandchildren; Justin Bentayou, James Bentayou, Jack Bentayou, Grace Rich, Connor Rich, Derick Peruch, Toni Peruch, John Peruch, Chase Peruch, Connor Kirk, Carson Kirk, Jonna-Marie Kirk, Dominic Vanacore, and Tori Vanacore; Great Granddaughter Corah Adele Kirk. Dick was a very active, curious, and inventive child who had the opportunity to travel by train all over the U.S. with his parents during his childhood. During high school, he attended Culver Military Academy located in Culver, Indiana. Before joining the Army Air Corps in 1941, Dick worked at William Powell Valves Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, where his father was vice-president. In the Army, he took the pilot exam and served as a gunnery instructor for four years. He met Clarice Francis and married in 1944. After the war, Dick returned to Ohio with his family to a farm in Clarksville, Ohio. Claris and he raised three wonderful children. Life on the farm was an invaluable experience for them and the children. The family moved to Florida in 1965. After the death of his wife, Claris, in 1975, Dick went on the Trapshooting circuit where he was an excellent marksman, winning numerous trophies. In 1977, he settled in Burns, Wyoming and bought a ranch on which he had cattle, horses and ran a salvage yard. He lived there for 20 years, meeting Carolyn in 1988. They moved to Port St. Lucie in 1997 and bought a home on the canal with ocean access and a dock for his boat so he could once again fish in the ocean. For most of his life, Dick was known as "a jack of all trades". In Wyoming, he was the "go to person" for anything needing fixing. There was little that he had not done or tried. He loved traveling, hunting, fishing, guns, trap shooting, cars, building and repairing anything, and all the animals on the farm and ranch. One of his favorite places to visit was St. Martin in the Caribbean. Dick loved being around his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter, watching them grow and succeed in life. After the passing of his wife Carolyn, Dick moved to Mims, Florida in 2019 to live with his Granddaughter Clarissa and her family. He lived his last years enjoying all his favorite comforts and being surrounded by family every day! Dick was a loving Father, Grandfather, and friend who will be remembered and missed by his loving family and friends.
