Robert L. Cupani, 80, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, Florida.  Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY the son of Laurence and Edvige Cupani he was a 50 year resident of Kings Park, NY.  In his early years he was a sailor in the Navy Construction Battalion followed by years as a firefighter with the Fire Department of New York City.  He continued to help others and became a registered nurse at St. John's Episcopal Hospital (currently St. Catherine's) in Smithtown, NY.  His happiest moments were spent with his family, friends and dogs.  Known by his friends as the Mayor, he enjoyed spending time with them at family dinners, casinos, hunting, fishing, and at his summer bungalow.  His door was always open.  He was a patriarch in the truest sense with wise words and advice for all because he encouraged their ambitious goals and celebrated their successes.

A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 59 years, Barbara Leonard Cupani, his children Robert W. Cupani and Jacqueline Ayres, Donna L. Torres and John Torres, Craig L. Cupani and Imre Cupani, Kerri J. Steiner and Darren Steiner, Kim Cupani and Frank Cafaro.  He was a devoted brother to Carolyn and brother-in-law, Jerry DeVito (both deceased); brother-in-law to Carolyn and John Fallon; Patricia and Frank Brody (deceased); and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  His greatest gift was his ten grandchildren, Lindsey, Amanda, Breana, Ryan, Lia, Karlie, Casey, Hunter, Gianna and Christian.
