Robert Shaffer Lucas died Oct 14, 2017. He was 82. Bob was born July 23, 1935 in Fremont, Ohio, and was the son of Virginia Shaffer and Robert Berger Lucas.
Bob graduated in 1953 in Fremont, Ohio from Fremont Ross High School where he was a state champion swimmer. He then graduated from Ohio State University with a business degree. Bob was involved in the ROTC and went on to spend three years in the Army Corp of Engineers achieving the rank of Lieutenant at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. He was also sent to Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio where he competed in, and won, many shooting competitions.
He moved to Florida in 1962 with his first wife Donna (nee Walter) and their 3 children, Loire, Jeff and Jay.
Bob was a property appraiser in the State of Florida and attained both the Member Appraisal Institute (MAI) and Senior Real Property Appraiser (SRPA) designations. Later in his career, he oversaw the commercial division of the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser's Office, managing a portfolio of appraisals of over $14 billion.
In 1977, he met his second wife, Cynthia Mazzer. They married in 1978 and had a daughter, Mercedes.
Bob and Cindy moved to Stuart and then Palm City, where Bob eventually retired. He loved the Florida weather, boats and fishing and continued to swim through his late seventies.
In retirement, he continued to coach softball and became a substitute teacher in Martin County. He especially enjoyed extended family get-togethers, watching his children, nieces and nephews grow up and raise children of their own.
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Jeffery Scott Lucas; his brother, Scott Lucas; Scott's wife, Sue Lucas; and a great-grandson, Domonic Joseph Drury Coschera. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Mazzer Lucas; his daughters, Loire Ann Lucas (husband Joseph Coschera), and Mercedes Lucas Thurston (husband Errol Thurston, Jr.), son Jay Howard Lucas (husband Jim Rose); and his sister Lynn Lucas Haynes (husband Wm Wood Haynes). Bob has three grandsons, five granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren. In addition, he has many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held in December for close friends and family.
