Robert "Bob" Michael Schmitt, 74, of Jensen Beach, FL, passed away on September 29, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife, son and daughter.

Born on February 12, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in the Marine Park neighborhood and attended the local Catholic schools until college.  After college, he worked for the New York Telephone Company.  He served two tours in the Navy serving in the Vietnam War.  Upon returning home, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and became a NYC fireman.  He retired from the  NYFD after more than 28 years. During retirement, he loved living on Hutchison Island, FL for 21 years.

Bob had a servant's heart and loved to take care of people.  He was always willing to help a stranger in need.  Over the years, he saved thousands of lives as a fireman and neighbor.  He loved to cook for a crowd and enjoyed many different cuisines.  He loved being with family and enjoyed watching his grandsons grow up.


Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret; his children Stephen Schmitt and Dr. Stacy Schmitt (Ian Byrne); his grandchildren, Colin Schmitt, Stephen Schmitt Jr., Sean Byrne and Jackson Byrne. He also survived by sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, Richard and Margaret, Bob was preceded in death by his son Robert Michael Jr.  and his brother Richard.
