Roger P. Desmarais, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Stuart, Florida on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
Born May 30, 1933, in Manchester, New Hampshire where he spent most of his life, moving to Stuart 18 years ago.
Roger graduated from West High School in 1951 and was a Navy Veteran serving from 1952-1956 on the USS Cogswell. He received the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe).
Roger had been a member of St. Peter Church in Auburn, New Hampshire and the Knights of Columbus. He was the former owner of Appliance Land, Manchester, New Hampshire.
Roger and Pauline spent many years camping and boating on Horace Lake in NH with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling cross country in their motor home while making many friends along the way. He enjoyed playing cards, calling BINGO, and spending time surf casting on the warm Florida beaches. Being very active in his community, Roger always greeted everyone with a smile, a story or perhaps a joke.
Devoted husband, father and friend, Roger is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 59 years, Pauline (Rondeau) Desmarais; children Paul Desmarais, his wife Karen, Lorraine Desmarais Parent, Charles Desmarais, his wife Patty, Andre Desmarais, his wife, Shelley; Richard LeBlanc and Rachel Marsh; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Claire Rivard and Irene Swist.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Jeannette (Marcotte) Desmarais and brother, Dr. Robert Desmarais.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass will be held at St. Peter Church, Auburn New Hampshire on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9:30 am followed by a graveside burial at New Hampshire Veteran's Cemetery 11:30 am, Boscawen, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, contributions as a memorial may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997 or give the gift of life by donating at your local Red Cross donation center.
