Rolf S. Gunther Jr., 45, died March 2, 2012, at his home. He was born in Chicago, Ill., coming to Martin County in 1979 from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

He was a graduate of Martin County High School, Class of 1984. He attended Florida State University, where he was active in The Seminole Boosters and a Golden Chief.

He was a fraternity member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a member of the Sports Car Club of America. He supported many charitable organizations in Martin County, including his favorite, the Humane Society of The Treasure Coast, for which he volunteered. He was a land developer, general contractor and owner of Manhattan Development of Martin County. He was an avid fisherman, boater and NASCAR driver.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi Lyman Gunther of Stuart; mother, Patricia K. Bennett of Stuart; sister, Shawn Etheridge; and brother-in-law, Mason Etheridge and nephew Oak Etheridge of Tampa, FL.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast or a charity of one's choice.

Services: A celebration of Rolf's life will be at 5:30 p.m. March 6, 2012 at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home, Garden Chapel; 950 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, FL 34994, with L.C. Campbell Jr. officiating, with a gathering to follow from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests those in attendance wear casual dress.
