Ronald Blaine Mills' Obituary
Ronald Blaine Mills, 91, of Hidden Harbor in Stuart, Florida, passed into the hands of the Lord on April 15, 2016 at the Treasure Coast Hospice House in Stuart.
Born November 17, 1924 at Holiday's Cove, West Virginia. Ronnie was one of three children of the late Glen B. Mills and Dolly M. Hayhurst Mills. He was preceded in death by a brother Rhoderic G. Mills of Leesburg, Florida.
He is survived by a son, Rhoderic B. Mills, of Delray, West Virginia; a sister, Gladie Erdman of Tampa, Florida; a niece, Rhonda L. Erdman also of Tampa; two nephews, Ronald G. Mills and his wife, Tobi of Punta Gorda, Florida and Frederic G. Erdman and his wife, Christina, of Boynton Beach, Florida, as well as a multitude of dear relatives and friends.
Ron was a Veteran of World War II having served with the United States Marine Corps Fifth Division where he saw action on Iwo Jima. He often recounted that one of his life's greatest moments was witnessing the original flag raising on Mount Suribachi which occurred prior to the more famous one.
After the war, he graduated from Potomac State College and attended West Virginia University in Business Administration. He began his working career as a Purchasing Agent for Evans Reamer in New Lexington, Ohio, managed his family's motel, restaurant and gas stations in Mount Storm, West Virginia, where in 1963 he was appointed US Postmaster by President Kennedy. He retired from that position in the 1980's and moved to Hobe Sound and Stuart, Florida areas.
Ron will be remembered as an avid golfer in both West Virginia and Maryland.
He most recently was employed by the Jupiter Island Club, where his golfing skills were much appreciated by many of its members and he was often invited to play on a daily basis and in club tournaments.
Ron was a charter member of the Mount Storm Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge in New Lexington, Ohio, as well as many civic organizations including the Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, and Marine Corps League.
Services and Interment with Military Honors will be at the convenience of the Family at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
