Obituary

Rose Clark Sanders left this earth to begin her eternity with Jesus on Friday, February 5, 2021, four days after her 78 th birthday on February 1 st . She passed away in Stuart, Florida.

The very picture of a gracious Southern lady, Rose was sweet, giving, kind, and loving. Jesus and her family were everything to her and it was obvious to everyone who was blessed by knowing her.

Rose was born in Thomasville, Georgia on February 1, 1943 to Shelton James Clark, Sr. and Margaret Coffee Clark. She was the youngest of their three children and she adored her siblings, Ann Elizabeth Clark Bibb and Shelton James Clark, Jr.

During junior high school, Rose met the love of her life, David Fielding Sanders, and thus began a love story that became an enduring example of a Godly marriage that has inspired and encouraged many. They fell in love "dragging Broad" Street, eating pool room hotdogs, and going on dates in David's 1953 cream over brown Chevrolet Bel-Air Powerglide during their time together at Thomasville High School. They became engaged when she was a Junior and the rest, as they say, was history.

Rose graduated in 1961, while David was serving overseas in the United States Army. Their song was "Save the Last Dance" by The Drifters because it was the song playing on David's car radio as he drove away after telling Rose goodbye before leaving for Ft. Jackson. They married on May 11, 1963, shortly after he returned. They spent the early years of their marriage in Thomasville, with Rose working at the Thomasville Motor Company. David would call just to hear her answer the phone, "Thomasville Sales," in her sweet, southern voice.

They spent a few years in Orlando, Florida as well and ultimately settled in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1972. Rose was active at their church, First Baptist of Ft. Lauderdale, serving with the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU), and Girls in Action (GAs), as well as hosting summer Backyard Bible Clubs and working with Vacation Bible School for children.

Rose had a tremendous impact on her community through her work with her church, but also through her establishment of a Christian bookstore. She owned and operated "The Good News Bookstore" in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for a number of years, selling Bibles, books on theological topics, and Christian music.

David and Rose moved to Palm City, Florida in 1984. Almost immediately after their move, they became active members of Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Stuart, Florida. At Covenant, Rose developed friendships that have endured and worked to serve wherever she could. Specifically, she and David led the Singles group at the church together, and she counted the offering each week for many years.

Rose's primary focus was always on her husband and their three daughters, Denisha Louise, Alissa Rose, and Kimberly Elizabeth. She loved, and protected, them fiercely. She supported and encouraged them endlessly. She taught her girls to love and trust Jesus by her own example. She sang "You Are My Sunshine" to them each night before bed.

Rose was preceded in death by her father, Shelton James Clark, Sr.; her mother, Margaret Coffee Clark; her Aunt, Leona Elizabeth Clark; her sister, Ann Elizabeth Clark Bibb; and her brother, Shelton James Clark, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, David, and their three adoring daughters, Denisha Sanders Bonds (and Brian Scott Bonds), Alissa Rose Lee (and Joseph William Lee), and Kimberly Elizabeth Sanders. Along with her three grandchildren, Faith Rose Lee, Caroline Grace Lee, and Joseph David Lee who were, quite literally, the light of her life.

There are many things that those who knew and loved Rose will miss about her. The beautiful smile that filled her eyes. The soft lilting of her sweet southern drawl. Her calm and comforting disposition. Her love and devotion for her dogs.

Her family will miss hearing, in that sweet voice, and reading, in her graceful handwriting, "I love you very much" usually numerous times, at the end of every text message, every phone conversation, every visit, every card, and at the end of every day they were together.
